The 60-Day Learning Journey
Following the profile feedback, the teams embark on a virtual learning journey over 60 days to engage in a discussion about value creation with their stakeholders.
At the same time, the teams work together to build a peer-based and virtual learning community designed to support each other. They do this through sharing best practices across their different areas of specialisation and broadening their learning.
Benefits
The virtual and action-based learning modules equip each of the teams with the productive practices needed to create Hot Spots in their work.
The teams take action to increase their bottom-line impact through tailored virtual or face-to-face training sessions (depending on location) with Hot Spots Coaches.
The learning modules reinforce and support the onsite themes. At the same time, the various modules increase the sustainability of the learning by embedding it into daily working practices of the teams and incorporating their stakeholder management practices.
Members of each team learn from each other by participating in the joint virtual training sessions and translating their learning into daily practices.
Overview
We use four learning modules within the 60-Day learning journey: leveraging team complexity as key asset, strengthening ignition to boost energy levels, creating a cooperative mindset, and jumping across boundaries to build valuable networks.
- Learning module 1: Leveraging team complexity. This helps the team or project in understanding complexity drivers in their work. Particular attention will be paid to how work across different areas of specialisation can be facilitated and how the team can put signature practices in place to tackle their complexity effectively and leverage technology to their advantage. This will increase the productive capacity of the team.
- Learning module 2: Strengthening ignition. This increases the energy level of the team to mobilize collective action. The team learns how to generate igniting questions that foster out-of-the-box thinking, how to formulate a compelling team vision that is closely linked to business goals, and how to design tasks that excite and energise all team members.
- Learning module 3: Creating a cooperative mindset. This creates a cooperative spirit among team members by teaching them how to work together productively hand-in-hand, how to increase flexibility about switching responsibilities and interpersonal trust, and how to align the team around strong cooperative goals that have a strong bottom-line impact.
- Learning module 4: Jumping across boundaries. This helps the team to build valuable networks within and outside the organisation. The team learns how to tap into external knowledge and information sources that are crucial to increasing productivity and innovation given the business context they are operating in. Members learn how to establish close relationships with key stakeholders and other critical ‘touch points’ within and outside the organisation in their work.
Each learning module contains the following:
- Thought Pieces in the form of articles, videos, and pod casts to excite and surprise learners and cover a broad range of learning preferences.
- Hot Tips which will provide the teams with directions of how to increase the chances of becoming a place of energy and innovation.
- To create tangible results teams will work on Hot Tasks to translate the learning into daily practice.
- Good Practice examples and case studies from teams and organizations from a broad range of industry sectors will illustrate best practice in the Hot Spots element under consideration.
- Learning questions and reflections will enhance the understanding of the learning material and focus action taking.
We deliver the learning modules through our online community portal. This portal provides learning content in an engaging and innovative way and fosters networking across all program teams by providing a shared space for sharing best practices around the learning topics and discussing the igniting question.
Each of the four learning modules comes with a one hour virtual or face-to-face training session (depending on location) that wraps up key learning points and provides the teams with tailored action steps based on their development needs. This helps the team to quickly increase their productivity and innovative capability given the context they are operating in.
The Hot Spots Temperature Check
After 50 days we judge the extent of change achieved through The Hot Spots Temperature CheckTM
Benefits
This provides a quantifiable measure of progress against the bottom-line deliverables of increased productivity, innovation, and value creation. It allows participating teams or projects to revisit their learning agendas to see if their action steps have made a difference over the course of the journey.
We found that the Temperature Check also creates a stronger momentum to encourage learning and focusing attention on this final outcome. The questionnaire and feedback enables team members to refine their previously formulated action steps and formulate new ones to keep up the energy and momentum in their teams for ongoing development.
The Temperature Check enables the stakeholders to comment and so strengthens their interface with the teams.
Overview
The temperature check includes feedback from members, team leaders, and stakeholders.
Once completed, team members receive an online profile documenting the extent of change that was achieved since the teams or projects embarked on the program.
The Temperature Check also provides suggestions for future action taking in the period after the learning journey to ensure the sustainability of the learning.
