HOT SPOTS TALKS TO…
MANDISI FENI, HR DIRECTOR, RICOH

This week, Emma was in Johannesburg catching up with Mandisi Feni, HR Director at business solutions company, Ricoh. Here’s what she learnt over a coffee in Ricoh’s South Africa head office.

I asked Mandisi what were the most pertinent HR challenges facing Ricoh and other companies operating in the region: “Recruiting for executive positions can be a difficult task” he said. “Often we have to rely on international talent due to shortages in the local market, which means persuading people to relocate far from their home countries.” Mandisi felt that many people are put off by some of the fears around relocating to developing regions, such as instability and high crime rates. NOVARTIS PHARMA WINS HR AWARD

We were delighted to hear that yet another one of our jam clients, Novartis Global Pharma HR, has received an award for the jam we ran with them. The award was part of the Novartis annual Global HR Awards which recognise achievements and major contributions within the key strategic pillars of the HR function.

The Culture & Energy award recognised the HR Jam as an innovative use of social media and a successful experiment which has since been replicated in other parts of Novartis. The motivation behind the jam was a desire to connect all Pharma HR associates in a structured and moderated online conversation to exchange opinions and ideas on how HR can help the Pharma business fulfil their strategy by leveraging, in particular, Organizational Agility. WHO’S IN OUR NETWORK? – KASPAR HOLTEN

Lynda has run a series of workshops with the management team at London’s Royal Opera House. One of the people she has been working with is the Opera House Director Kaspar Holten.

Kaspar has been at the forefront of bringing new initiatives and new productions and greater variety to the Royal Opera House and as ever, we think that corporations have a lot to learn from the creative industries when it comes to embracing new things and making them part of their organisational tapestry.

HOT SPOTS UPDATES…

Lynda's latest book, The Key: How Corporations Succeed by Solving the World’s Toughest Problems has been ranked 10th in the Best Management Book award, as voted for by the readers of the Japanese edition of Harvard Business Review. Lynda was in good company as other non-Japanese books in the top 10 included "How Google Works" by Eric Schmidt and Jonathan Rosenberg, "Give and Take" by Adam M. Grant, and "Zero to One" by Peter Thiel.

FoW members will be looking forward to our masterclass on Collaboration which is taking place in London on 3rd February. You can whet your appetite for this theme by checking out Lynda’s latest blog post about Building a Collaborative Architecture.
