THE HOT SPOTS MOVEMENT AND CENTRAL SAINT MARTINS ANNOUNCE VIDEO COLLABORATION

One of our most exciting exercises in collaboration has been working with a group of students at Central Saint Martins to produce a series of videos about Engagement 2.0, in a project that combines academic research with the latest in design and narrative techniques.

Boundary spanning and making the most of our diverse network is a vital part of our process here at the Hot Spots Movement, and plays a central role in our Engagement 2.0 video project. More

INNOVATIVE ‘SERVICE MANUFACTORY’
LAUNCHES IN NUREMBERG

We recently heard from our friend, open innovation expert Professor Kathrin Mösslein, who gave us an update on her latest project with the University FU in Nuremberg.

Based on the concept that if you are going to take an idea to market you need to test it first, JOSEPHS is the world’s first service manufactory/laboratory. It uses a co-creational model to help people test their business ideas on real consumers. We think it’s a unique and exciting idea and look forward to hearing more about it when it launches in April. In the meantime, we’re following them on Facebook – hopefully you are too.

HOT SPOTS COMMENTARY -
REASONS TO FEEL OPTIMISTIC ABOUT EMPLOYEE ENGAGEMENT

by Tina Schneidermann, COO, Hot Spots Movement

Exactly one year ago I shared some observations about Employee Engagement. In particular, I focused on the fact that the way companies approach engagement may not always be the most effective one, with the sad and costly outcome that engagement levels are often below expectations.

Since then, we’ve been following developments in this area very closely, and a year on, I’m far more optimistic. More

HAS RECESSION AFFECTED YOUR CAREER HEALTH?

Our research team has just been reading a new report entitled The Role of Social Determinants in Tackling Health Objectives in a Context of Economic Crisis. Public Health isn’t something you’d normally hear us talking about at the Hot Spots Movement, but the findings in the report have serious implications for the future of work.

The soon-to-be-published report by Sir Michael Marmot, Ellen Bloom and Peter Goldblatt at University College London’s Institute of Health Equity focuses on the quality of jobs created during a an economic downturn and the impact on employee wellbeing and resilience. More

WHO’S IN OUR NETWORK? – Anne-Marie Slaughter

Lynda may have been in the news lately for writing about the dearth of women at Davos, but while she was there, she did manage to catch up with one woman she’s always wanted to meet: Dr Anne-Marie Slaughter, president and CEO of the New America Foundation, a public policy institute and idea incubator based in Washington and New York.

Lynda has long been an admirer of Anne-Marie’s work, which includes the books A New World Order (2004) and The Idea That Is America: Keeping Faith with Our Values in a Dangerous World (2007), as well as the article “Why Women Still Can’t Have It All,” which became The Atlantic magazine’s most read article of the 2012 and added renewed energy to the debate on why male-female equality is still facing obstacles. We’re looking forward to hearing more from Anne-Marie in 2014 and are happy to have her in our extended networks.
