GETTING TO KNOW THE BANKER OF THE FUTURE

What is the purpose of a bank? What kind of skills and capabilities will banks need to fulfil this purpose and deliver value to customers and clients in the future? These are the fundamental questions we are exploring with five of the world’s leading banks as part of our The Banker of the Future Research project. More

ARE YOU STORING UP ENOUGH INTANGIBLE ASSETS – AND THE RIGHT ONES?

For many people who are contemplating a lengthening life span, maintaining an acceptable level of financial assets has become something of a preoccupation. What many are failing to give due consideration to, however, is intangible assets. Our observation is that in a low-growth economy there needs to be less emphasis on tangible assets as the centre of the relationship between the employer and the employee, and more emphasis on intangible assets. WHO’S IN OUR NETWORK? THE HOT SPOTS TEAM

In a slight break from tradition, this month we’ve decided to focus on the growing team at Hot Spots Movement. Maintaining a team that represents diverse perspectives and types of experience is core to what we do, so we’re pleased that our current team reflects a range of different nationalities and career backgrounds, including business intelligence, social history and psychology. As well as core research and digital skills, we’re able to draw on expertise in cross-cultural networks and social groups, collaborative intelligence, analytics and logistics. Of course, by far the most important thing about our team is how willingly it embraces collaboration, which allows us to put our diverse backgrounds to optimum use – and have a lot of fun in the process!

BENCHMARKING YOUR PEOPLE POWER

At Hot Spots Movement, we strongly believe in the power of the crowd. We’ve helped organisations successfully unleash this people power through our Jam platform, such as reframing the Millennial talent strategy at PwC and addressing work-life balance at Linklater’s. We find that employees voices provide deep insights into pain points, support creative thinking and enable organisations to self-diagnose issues.

We know that many organisations are keen to harness the full potential of this collective wisdom, and we’ve put together a short survey to assess the current capability of your organization to unlock your people power by considering areas such as organisational structure and values, how you encourage input, innovative capability, collaboration and knowledge sharing. SPRING: BRINGING PEOPLE TOGETHER AT SOMERSET HOUSE

Summer is a great time here at Somerset House, with a lively programme of events brightening up its famous courtyard and the beautiful rooms around the palace. The one that really captured our imaginations is Table at Spring, a communal dining experience aimed at uniting people from different backgrounds around food to stimulate great conversation – and hopefully some collaboration too. Guests are served from a locally sourced scratch menu to help avoid food waste and promote a more mindful approach to the use of resources such as food and energy. In a world where environmentally conscious programmes are often associated with large organisations, we think it’s great example of how smaller businesses can encourage others to take small steps that make a difference.

HOT SPOTS UPDATES…

THE ART OF MENTORING: HELPING CREATE THE NEXT FEMALE LEADERS

We were really pleased to have FoW member Nupur Singh Mallick, Director of HR at Tata Consultancy Services UK & Ireland, write a guest blog for us about her involvement in this year’s Women of Silicon Roundabout event. Nupur spoke at the event about the important role mentoring has to play in empowering women in the IT industry, as well as about TCS’ iConnect platform, an internal initiative that provides each employee with a mentor and encourages them to meet up and maintain regular contact.
